DON’S GLASS HISTORY

Many dream of owning their own business – many try, but few succeed. Those who persevere, those with dedication, those who sacrifice; they succeed. They bring quality and excellence to their customers. They are like the craftsmen at Don’s Glass.

"WE HAD GREAT CONFIDENCE AND A PICKUP TRUCK"

"We started our business in the North Hills before the big building boom. We started doing mirrors and shower doors. We built everything we could. We built the wooden rack for the bed of the truck. We even built the table we cut glass on, in the shop."

"IN JANUARY 1985 WE RENTED A STOREFRONT"

"We didn’t have much money back in the 80’s, but we saved and rented a 600 sq-foot storefront. We hand painted the name on the pickup truck. We also had no room to store metal, so we put it on the roof. Then we had two storage trailers out back with scaffolding, tools, Plexiglas and other materials in it. We eventually outgrew our space and rented space from a body shop."

"OUR GROWTH SPURRED WHEN WE JOINED THE BUILDERS ASSOCIATION"

"We’d go to the meeting every other week. That made the business catapult. By the 1990 we had over 40-45 home builders. We hustled. It was quite a roster for a 3-4 employees. We started earlier than everyone, 6AM and every Saturday. The more we worked, the more business came. We have done the glass for almost all car dealers all the way from McKnight Road to Zelienople."

"I WAS TAUGHT NOT TO DO THINGS TWICE"

"We’ve learned some hard but valuable lessons along the way. The most important one was: Do it right the first time, no matter how long it takes. We drive that message into all employees: Do the job right, the first time. We make it a point to not buy from the cheapest suppliers: we look for quality. We don’t want to go back. We have a reputation for quality and dependability."

"WE HAVE A HISTORY FOR A REASON"

"We have succeeded because of the people who work here. I have enormous trust in the people who work for Don’s Glass. We always treated each other like adults. These folks came here with brains and talent. Get Todd and Chaz into a person’s home and they’ll make the people feel confident that their vision will become a reality. My mirror may not be any different than the competition’s mirror, but our guys understand our customers, and that makes a huge difference. It’s the same on the commercial end: the contractors and estimators have utmost confidence in Steve."

Steve Evans joined Don’s Glass in 1986 and has played an increasingly important role in the growth of the company. Steve addressed the reasons why he believes Don’s Glass has been successful with contractors and estimators.

"GENERAL CONTRACTORS COUNT ON US TO HAVE THEM COVERED"

"The GC’s want us to cover the Scope of Work on bid day and complete the project on schedule. They count on ALL subcontractors to achieve these goals. We have built a reputation for ALWAYS finishing ALL WORK….ON TIME."

"WE WORK TO THEIR SCHEDULE AND HELP THEM ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS WITHIN THEIR BUDGETS."

"We have hired some of the best glaziers in Pennsylvania. Our whole crew does what it takes to get the job done – with quality, whether it’s commercial or residential. We have lived this business. No one, and I mean NO ONE, knows this business better than we do."

"WE STAND BEHIND OUR WORK"

"We get very few callbacks, but on the rare occasion when it happens, we go straight to the site and make things right. We do this because we CARE, all of us, that the GC’s and homeowners are completely satisfied with our work. We want them to take the same pride in their homes and offices as we do."

Don summarizes with a mantra:   "IF YOU WANT IT DONE RIGHT, DO IT WITH US"

"If you want it done right, do it with us; it’s the only way we do anything. The others don’t have the personnel we have. The trust you feel once you have talked to or met our people will make you feel confident that your needs will be met and exceeded. And that is really what everyone is looking for: a project done right, on time and as requested."
